This should be a great event with workers and their families coming from miles around to share in the good times. We are planning on having speeches by political leaders, music, refreshments, voter registration, labor history, awards and more. Thus far the planning for this event has gone smoothly. However, we have encountered one small difficulty in obtaining permission from the City to have amplification at the site in Stewart Park. Mr. Doyle, who is authorized to grant such permission, has turned us down. We really need the amplification for both music and speakers and, as the event will most certainly not run past 6 PM, we are very surprised at the refusal. Also, we would not be setting precedent in any way as both the Ithaca Festival and the Chamber of Commerce have been allowed amplification. I will be appealing this matter before the Board of Public Works at 4 PM on August 8, 1984 in the Common Council chamber and I am hoping that I can count upon your support as a well known friend of organized labor. Sincerely yours, Jim Morrissette
