TOMPKINS = CORTLAND JOINT LABOR COALITION

Press Release

| June 5, 1984

\The Tompkins-Cortland Joint Labor Coalition met this evening
at TC3 and one of the items on the agenda was the election of
Coalition officers to serve for the first year. Jim Morrissette
from the Cornell Security Employees Union was chosen as Chair
and Tom Keane of CSEA-TC3 was named Vice Chair. Also elected
were Skye Milliman, Painters Local 178 as Secretary and Jim
Nichols, TC3 Faculty Association as Treasurer.

The meeting began with a talk given by local labor attorney
J. Anthony Gaenslen who stressed the urgent need for Union
solidarity in the face of President Reagan's attacks on organized
labor. Gaenslen, who worked for many years with Ceaser Chavez,
also said that organized labor must lead the fight on a broad
range of economic and social issues of immediate concern to
progressive and democratic people in the Ithaca community.

At present the young labor Coalition enjoys the participation
of over twenty Unions who in turn represent nearly 6000 workers
in Tompkins and Cortland County. A political action committee has
been formed to explore appropriate ways to involve union members
in local and national politics. The Coalition also hopes to put
on a tremendous LAbor Day bash for workers in all the surrounding
County.

All Local Unions are urged to join the Coalition. The meetings
are open to all members of the labor community.
