How this was made

Sources and care

Every event lists its sources. Where they disagree, or a detail is not yet settled, the event carries a note.

Where the facts come from

  • The Tompkins-Cortland Labor Coalition records (Kheel Center collection 6185), photographed and published in this Labor Archive.
  • The Working Press, the Coalition's newspaper, 1986–1996, read from page images and an OCR transcription of the full run.
  • The Workers' Edge, the Tompkins County Workers' Center newsletter, 2007–2021.
  • Published writing by Carl Feuer and Pete Meyers, and public news coverage for recent years.

What it leaves out

Following the archive's rules, the timeline does not use interview recordings or excerpts, fieldnotes, or internal documents from present-day organizations, and it leaves out personal details such as ages, immigration status, and contact information. From one unpublished organizational history it takes only dated public events: campaigns, votes, and settlements.

Corrections

OCR text contains errors, and memories and newsletters sometimes disagree. If a date, name, or outcome is wrong, or you have a story or photograph that belongs here, write to ar2539@cornell.edu.
