Union and community support has now become even more crucial to the miners' fight for their jobs and a fair contract. Discussions with deputies and correspondence with Sheriff Howard, have clarified supporters rights to picket at the Lansing mine. Solidarity picketing will continue every Tuesday from 2-4pm in Lansing. Moosewood restaurant has announced that it will donate food every Tuesday, and a fundraising brunch at Moosewood is in the planning stages. Painters Local #178 has recently donated food baskets to the striking miners' families as well. Ed Ritchie, Business Agent for the Painters Union which has brought one hundered dollars worth of food to the miners, vowed his continued support. Additional information has been provided to the Ithaca City Attorney regarding Cargill's record of irresponsible corporate behavior. As further evidence of Cargill's misconduct becomes known, we hope to see Ithaca and other cities re-evaluate their business relationship with Cargill Salt for the duration of the strike. One hundred miners are still on strike, and more than ever in need of support from their neighbors and from our community. If you can help in any way, please contact the Labor Coalition at 272-4108 or attend a Miners Solidarity Meeting, Monday evenings at 7:30pm, 109 W. State.
