Ad Hoc Financial Planning Committee draft minutes, April 1, 1997

The committee reviews monthly cash flow and the 1997 budget and lists possible uses of a surplus: Workers' Rights Boards in Cortland and Ithaca, a regional labor paper, health and safety, and newsletters. It agrees to focus first on reinventing The Working Press as a regional publication.

Ad Hoc Financial Planning Committee Draft Minutes
April 1, 1997

1. Carl provided the monthly cash flow report and a 1997 budget
projection (assuming no health/safety funding) . Budget can
sustain a half-time coordinator without tapping into current
Surplus. Robin will be laid off, hopefully just on a temporary
basis until OSHTEP or other funded projects become available.

2. Various ideas were advanced re the potential use of surplus
funds currently available:
Maintain Workers’ Rights Board in Cortland
Establish Workers’ Rights Board in Ithaca
Develop a regional labor paper (Working Press expanded)
Fund a health and safety program
Fund continued publication of FYI newsletters
Fund short-term effort to establish the FYI newsletters as a
commercial venture (sell subscriptions to cover costs)
Work toward greater coordination and activism among Southern
Tier CLCs
Support solidarity-building actions: buses to events,
rallies, etc.

3. Coert emphasized that any initiative should be directd towards
the effort to build a larger consortium of activist CLCs and
unions in the Southern Tier region.

4. It was agreed that the Cortland Workers Rights Board should be
supported at the current level, if outside funding can not be
secured.

5. It was further agreed to focus attention first on the idea of
reinventing the Working Press as a regional labor publication.
Carl and Coert will develop a draft proposal.

6. The Working Press proposal will be submitted to next Steering
Committee meeting, April 23 (6:30, Labor Coalition office,
Ithaca), for review.
