Mayor John Gutenberger addressed the meeting, speaking on a variety of topics
including the need for unions to form some cohesive unit, the acute need for ;

more practical job-market training for young people, the concerns of his con-

stituents on finding and keeping jobs, and the problem of attracting and keeping
businesses in the locality.

Morse Chain, reporting some ene in negotiations with Borg Warner, but less
encouragement with Emerson. Charlie French reported on the settlement of the
Cornell/ Building Trades contract, while Paul Carkson tdld ‘of Frankkin Prinkihg’s
first contract. The Ithaca Journal Employees reported no significant progress
in their talks, and the chairman expressed the opinion that the Journal had a
history of expressing censorship by omission, and suggested that perhaps the
Coalition should give some attention to the problem. The membership also
discussed possible measures of helping the Postal Workers in their struggles.

Paul Carlson and Mike Cohen reported on the Dump Reagan kickoff meeting, which
was well-attended and optimistic, and on the voter registration efforts, which
have been highly successful, averaging approximately 169 registrants per day.

Committees reported that plans for the Labor Day picnic were continuing apace
and the Runaway Shop Legislation Committee, having received sample legislation
from Frank Barbaro, hoped to have a draft soon. Coalition Funding and Labor
Education programs were briefly discussed and effectively tabled until the next
meeting due to the lateness of the hour and the sudden arrival of our second
speaker, candidate for Assemblyman, 125th District, John Currey, Mr. Currey
requested the support of the Coalition in his drive to unseat bis opponent,
Republican Sam McNeil. He told us that he feels people should have representation
which is responsible and responsive. His qualifications include experience with

John Lindsay's administration; and he pointed out that Mr. MeNsil had repeatedly

voted against the interests of his constituents, \ ng 5
